Anime Anime Character of the Week

Anime Character Of The Week August 21,2022

From left to right: A-KO and C-KO

This weeks anime character is A-KO from one of my favorite anime series from the past, Project A-KO. The first of four movies came out back in 1986. The story from the first movie is about A-KO just trying to live a “normal” high school life with her best friend C-KO. However, A-KO is not your ordinary high schooler. She has extraordinary strength and speed, and is constantly trying to make it to school on time with the speed of the road runner from Looney Tunes. Also, another student called B-KO has eyes for C-KO and constantly sets up A-KO with traps (like mechas and even other students. Wait until you see Mari!!).

(Here’s B-KO. She’s the daughter of a wealthy family and is constantly fighting with A-KO to get C-KO’s affections and friendship).

To add to the craziness of this movie, there is also an alien invasion. Without giving away too much, the aliens are very unusual and there are some absolutely hilarious moments involving the aliens. In summary, if you haven’t seen Project A-KO, definitely check this movie out. This is one of the classic anime series that was aired a lot on the old Syfy channel on their anime lineup. Also, just recently, this movie just got a Blu-Ray release with a ton of extras. You can buy the Blu Ray version here.

Anime Character Of The Week October 3, 2021

The anime character of the week is one of the most famous vampires from not only the Netflix Castlevania Animated Series, but throughout history itself, Dracula or Vlad Tepes. In the Netflix Castlevania animated series, Dracula is one of the most developed villians I’ve ever seen. Even though he is definitely evil and mad, there is a side to Dracula that makes you feel sympathy for him. I can honestly see why Lisa Tepes, his wife, fell for him, along with his followers. Here is an excellent fandom about Dracula from the Castlevania animated series: https://castlevania.fandom.com/wiki/Dracula_(animated_series)

Anime Character Of The Week September 26, 2021

This week’s anime character is one of my favorite male characters from Rumiko Takahashi, Inu Yasha. Inu Yasha is a half human, half demon character from feudal japan with incredible strength and powers. What I love about Inu Yasha is that he can be brash and cocky at times, yet is very loyal to his friends. Throughout the entire Inu Yasha series, he changes gradually and becomes powerful enough to save everyone’s life from the evil Naraku and other demons and monsters throughout the storyline. Here is an excellent fandom page about Inu Yasha: https://inuyasha.fandom.com/wiki/Inuyasha.

Anime Character Of The Week September 19, 2021

This week’s anime character is Sasami Masaki Jurai from Tenchi Muyo. Sasami is beloved by not only Tenchi Muyo fans, but fans of anime as well. What makes Sasami such a popular character, is that, despite her young age, she is very mature (though in the first OVA series, she was mischevious with Tenchi and Ayeka). Also, Sasami is a great cook and housekeeper at the Masaki household. She also acts as a mediator between Ryoko and Ayeka when things gets heated between the two over Tenchi’s affections. Convention News

Staying healthy at anime cons this year (and possibly next year as well).

Image: Kakashi Hatake from Naruto.

Over the past few months, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of cases of Covid-19. The strain of the corona virus that is highly contagious now is the Delta variant. From animecons.com, several conventions are postponing, canceling or going virtual in the next couple of months. While many anime cons are still planning to hold an in person convention (though this is very subject to change), here are some recommended advice you should consider before attending any anime (or large event) conventions:

  • Get fully vaccinated before the con. I know that there are cases out there were some people who were fully vaccinated still got sick with covid. However, from the stories I read, those infected people were able to recover quickly and had mostly mild symptons. Also, getting fully vaccinated gives other con goers (especially con staff) some relief knowing that you are being responsible for your health and the well being of everyone else.
  • Wear a face mask inside the con. Several cons now are making it mandatory that you wear a face mask inside the building. Outside however, you can take your mask off for photos or photoshoots. However, still practice social distancing and good hygiene.
  • If you are sick or feeling sick, check with the medical staff to see if it is okay for you to stay at the con. If the medical staff considers you a health risk and encourages you to go back home, then ask registration and/or other hotel or staff members for either a refund or to roll over your membership and/or hotel fees to the next con. Believe me, I’m pretty sure that your health is more important than a con. Also, a good con will allow you to roll over your membership and fees for the next con, considering the circumstances everyone is facing now.
  • Finally, if you feel uncomfortable going to any cons right now, then consider postponing until next year. I know that many of you (myself included) miss going to cons last year. However, the safety and health of everyone is very important now more than ever. Take care everyone and stay safe and healthy.

Anime pride character of the June 20

Today’s anime pride character of the day is Masaki Sumitani aka Hard Gay Man. Masaki Sumitani was a Japanese professional wrestler before he did a comedy skit under Hard Gay Man. Hard Gay Man was known for his infamous pelvis thrusting, comedic sexual suggestions and either scaring or shocking japanese or foreign people. Here is a wikipedia about Hard Gay Man: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masaki_Sumitani. Also, here is a youtube video of Hard Gay Man in a skit for Father’s Day: https://youtu.be/OvkxFAKemGo
